General Information

The Supplemental Instruction (SI) program is a resource offered and available to any student registered in an SI-targeted course. SI sessions occur two times each week outside of scheduled class periods. SI Leaders are a great resource and are supportive peers. Attending SI sessions enables students to become immersed in the course content through group study sessions, group activities, and more.

Supplemental Instruction (SI) Effectiveness

The International Center for SI in Kansas City shows that students who regularly attend and participate in SI sessions enjoy pass rates up to 60% higher than their classmates who do not attend SI.

SI Information for Faculty

Supplemental Instruction Leaders have previously taken and excelled in a particular course and are hired to “retake” the course while acting as a model student in the classroom. The SI Leader plans and utilizes a variety of interactive learning methods to enforce course content and promote effective study habits with two weekly group study sessions outside of scheduled class periods each week.

Accreditation

In the fall of 2023, Dalton State became the first state college in Georgia to receive a three-year accreditation for its Supplemental Instruction (SI) Program from the International Center for Supplemental Instruction (ICSI).
